Drake has received approval for a minor variance from a North York zoning by-law restricting fence height.

North York community council signed off on the exemption Monday, allowing the Canadian singer-superstar to have fences as high as 4.4 meters. Currently, in North York, the limit in the zoning by-laws for most residential properties is 2 meters.

A minor variance is essentially an exemption from the current by-law, without changing the zoning regulation for a specific property. Provided no further modifications, Drake’s fence would be deemed what is considered “legal non-conforming”. Although his property wouldn’t adhere to the imposed by-laws, it is deemed legal by city council.

Brad Rafuli Commented to CP24 “Everyone knows where he eats, where he sleeps, and that has really freaked him out…Security is really, really high on the list.”

In an attempt to hide the massive fence, the building company proposed a row of cedars be planted in order to hide the fence.

Councillor Jaye Robinson of the Toronto ward 15 in which Drake’s 21 Park Lane Circle sits, commented to CTV news “There was very little opposition,” she said. “There’s nothing lovelier than a whole row of beautiful trees, so we’re very impressed with the actual investment in trees on this particular property.”
